In August 2004 Hoxton Hall ran a
youth community arts project entitled Dream Stuff & Non Sense
as part of the Shoreditch festival.
The project involved 40 young people
split into four groups: dance, drama, music and art. Over 2 weeks
the young people explored dreams and their meanings. They turned
Hoxton Hall into a dream world, creating an installation performance
for the audience, which included live & recorded music, puppets,
video, dance and drama.
The project provided local young
people with a positive, creative experience during the summer
holidays. It focused on common dreams- dreams that we have all
experienced at some point in our life. By discussing these dreams
the young people, who came from a wide-range of different cultures,
could find a common ground with each other, thereby bringing them
and the community closer.
The project was a great success
and was well received by young people, parents and the community
generally. The young people really took on board the idea that
no matter what culture or background, we all dream the same. The
final performance was also described by one audience member as
"one of the best performances by young people that I have
ever seen". Find out more about Hoxton Hall click here.
